Orchestrating Cloud Editing Workstations
Orchestrating remote editing for a major media group with scalable cloud tools and AI automation.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
To support remote work for editors, a leading media organization required a scalable cloud-based editing environment that provided seamless access to high-performance workstations. The challenge was to enable on-demand provisioning of resources, manage fluctuating cloud infrastructure costs, and ensure a smooth editing experience for cutters working from different locations.
Phase 2 Enhancements
In addition to the cloud editing solution, Phase 2 of the project extended the scope to incorporate generative AI use cases, including automated summaries and highlight clipping using OpenAI's GPT models. These AI-driven features were integrated directly into the organization’s MAM and DAM systems, such as Mimir and Iconik, enhancing content creation workflows and metadata generation for faster, more efficient content publication.
The challenge
The organization needed to provide remote access to editing workstations while maintaining high performance and security. The traditional on-prem setup limited remote capabilities, making it difficult for editors to collaborate effectively. Additionally, the unpredictable cost of cloud resources made budgeting a challenge, requiring real-time monitoring and cost visualization to prevent overruns.
A key concern was seamless integration between multiple tools:
-
AWS workstations with Adobe Premiere and Lucidlink pre-installed for cloud-based editing
-
Teradici for high-speed remote access
-
Leostream for connection brokering, scheduling, and SSO
-
Iconik to manage news agency files and metadata
Without an orchestrated approach, managing these disparate tools manually would lead to operational inefficiencies, security risks, and cost uncertainty.
The solution
qibb delivered an integrated orchestration layer that unified cloud editing, provisioning, and monitoring under a single Editor Dashboard.
Key Capabilities Implemented:
-
Seamless Remote Editing – Editors access cloud-based Adobe Premiere workstations via Teradici, ensuring low-latency performance.
-
On-Demand Resource Scaling – Editors can request additional workstations dynamically, allowing for cost-efficient scaling.
-
Centralized Cost & Usage Monitoring – qibb provides real-time cost tracking to control cloud spending and prevent overruns.
-
Automated Housekeeping – Unused news agency assets in Iconik are systematically archived.
-
Single Sign-On (SSO) Integration – Leostream connects to Azure AD, allowing seamless and secure access for users.
Phase 2 AI-Driven Enhancements:
-
Automated Summaries with ChatGPT – Using Mimir’s native speech-to-text integration, qibb automates the generation of summaries for video clips, which can be utilized for social media posts or keyword enrichment. This speeds up SEO optimization, content discoverability, and publishing timelines.
-
AI Highlight Clipping – Leveraging OpenAI’s GPT models, qibb automates the creation of highlight clips by transcribing video assets and identifying key moments. This reduces manual effort, speeding up clip creation and streamlining the content production process.
By integrating these tools with qibb, the media organization achieved a fully automated and scalable cloud-based editing environment that adapts to real-time demands while maintaining cost control.
By leveraging qibb’s low-code orchestration capabilities and AI-driven enhancements, the organization has streamlined remote editing, reduced operational overhead, and ensured predictable cloud costs, enabling teams to focus on delivering high-quality content at scale.
